Computer
& IT Jobs Onboard a Cruise Ship
Being
at sea today means that everything is just a click away. Thanks to
satellite technology, passengers and crew can get current news, sport
scores and access email. Because of this new trend, more and more cruise
lines are hiring people to work as shipboard computer specialists. These
positions involve the set-up, programming and problem solving of onboard
hardware, software and point-of-sale systems. All this technology is
rather new to ships. Norwegian Cruise Line introduced the first Internet
café in 1999 onboard the Norwegian Sky. Today, most ships have Internet
access so jobs in this field are plentiful.
Maritime
Telecommunications Network (MTN)
MTN's Digital Seas, providing Internet cafés onboard several
cruise ships, is the first Information Technology concession. At
present, they run their Digital Seas Internet product for Carnival
Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and
P&O Cruises. Visit their website at www.mtnsat.com
for more information.
