Resume
& Interview Tips
Improving
the Content of Your Resume
It is a wise idea to obtain as many certifications as you can to improve
the content of your resume. Certificates or courses show an employer
that you are multi-talented and have the incentive and enthusiasm to
learn. Certifications are especially useful if you have none or only a
small amount of post-secondary education.
Customer Service Training:
WorldHost
Training Services
(formerly called SuperHost®) are workshops
developed by Canada's Tourism British Columbia and offer certifications
in customer service excellence. Content ranges from enhancing core
communication skills to dealing with irate customers, understanding and
exceeding expectations across cultures, providing excellent service for
customers with disabilities, empowering and coaching employees, and
being an effective problem solver.
First Aid Training:
It
is also favorable to obtain First Aid or CPR training. Call your town or
city's local recreation complex or community college for more
information on the courses available. You can also find information on
health and safety training online at:
Languages:
Another
way to show a potential employer that you have initiative is to take an
introductory course to a second language such as Spanish, French, German
or American Sign Language. When completed, you can mention this under a
section of your resume titled Languages.
