Shore Leave for Cruise Ship Crew Members
You
will be able to go ashore in most ports if your work schedule permits.
But keep in mind that the ship has the right to delay or cancel crew
shore leave at any time. This can happen for various reasons. You may be
required to attend a boat drill, the ship may dock late or maybe there
are limited tender boats available to take you to shore if the ship has
anchored.
Large ships often have a designated crew gangway. If you must
use the passenger gangway, remember that passengers always disembark
first. Also, don't forget to bring your crew identification card with
you when disembarking the ship. The crew onboard time is usually one
hour prior to departing the port. It is very important to remember this
because if you miss the ship, you are responsible for your own travel
expenses to meet the ship at the next port. As well, be prepared to be
summoned to Captain's court.
