Keeping
In Touch With Home
Email:
Most cruise ships have Internet access; however, it may be less expensive to
correspond via email from an Internet station in port. Normally you can
find Internet stations near the cruise ship terminal and, often,
shipboard employees receive a discount.
Telephone:
The most inexpensive way to phone home is by using a prepaid telephone
card at a public phone in port. These cards are available from most
convenience stores or the crew purser can tell you if they are sold
onboard. You simply dial a toll-free number, input the pin number
located on the back of the card and then dial the number you wish to
call. Too easy! The best prepaid telephone cards to purchase are the
ones that do not have a connection or access fee each time you use it.
Otherwise, you can easily waste most of your minutes without even
talking to anyone.
Mail:
It is possible to send and receive mail onboard so ask your employer for
the ship's mailing address. Before giving the address out to everyone,
make sure that you will not be transferred to a different ship.
